The term of (AR) Augmented Reality is a very popular technology in this generation and the future trends & impact. It is very reliable in many kinds of industries such as education, healthcare, construction, military etc. In this passage, I am going to elaborate on how AR technology is taking over the interior design industry.
I personally worked in a residential interior design firm while I was in San Diego California back in 2018. During that period of time, I kept using 3D software work on client projects, without any advanced technology. It required a lot of repetitive work, details correction, meeting with clients and more, It was, as you can imagine, time consuming and draining at the same time. Then I discovered some companies were using advanced technology that could transform brand new interior spaces for client and one of those technologies was, of course, AR.
Why do customers rely on technology instead of hiring interior designers?
Nowadays, when people wish to redecorate their current or a brand new home, but would like to spare shelling out $150 CAD per hour to hire a professional designer, the ultimate solution seems to be the brand new IKEA PLACE app. It contains different kinds of furniture, accessories and more. It is a brand new shopping experience for consumers. By just simply using a smartphone with AR technology to preview what it would look like after placing the furniture, they can avoid spending a lot of money on unsuitable goods.
Why is it a brand new shopping experience?
Consumers could skip the trip to the IKEA super-centre and purchase items from online to deliver to their doorstep instead. The product they have been seeking can be measured, placed into space and evaluated on a variety of features within the app, the item shows up at the real product scale allowing consumers to make arrangements or take measurements and proceed to check out to finish the overall shopping experience.
To draw a conclusion
AR Technology has become a highly intelligent tool able to take over part of the interior design industry, while customers would like to save on the budget and brainstorm what they really want for their dream space. This caused a huge impact for designers and these tools make our lives simpler.
