Are mini articles really helpful?

Written by Sifan, 2021 Cohort

In this week’s Boot Camp, we talked about a writing platform–Medium. It says it’s easy and free to share your own ideas and contact with readers from around the world. Most articles on it are pretty short. You don’t need more than 10 mins to finish reading one article. Even in class, we practiced writing a 2 minutes article. But it brings to me a question whether it’s helpful for people to read such short pieces.

Reading is a good way to improve ourselves. Undoubtedly, having the habit of reading  is helpful to everyone. However, in the busy culture, people are always chasing time. Most people have to live far away from the company and get up early to deal with their family issues and job problems. Because of overworking, they don’t have too much time to read or improve themselves. While, precisely they can spare some time. But the pressure and the fatigue of daily life make them tired of even the remote isea of gaining more knowledge. So, this new form of writing appeared to indulge their short attention spans. And we have lots of this kind of digital platform to produce and read mini articles, like Medium. Compared to books or e-books, this form is more popular nowadays.

It’s hard to deny that using the clip time to read some short articles  is easier to start learning. But is it really useful for you, or just use some empty text to kill time, and will you feel you have evolved?

Well, for me, short articles are useless for people’s growth. Just like eating fast food. It’s quick and delicious. But this kind of food will make you more hungry. Your satisfaction is only temporary. But after that you will feel empty and have nothing left in your mind. Maybe something conceptual is left lingering in your mind, but you still can’t turn it into your own things.

All in all, don’t waste time on reading short and fast pieces. Go and get some real reading that is good for you. Maybe it’s hard to start, but if you keep doing this for a while, you will see the change in yourself.
