Common Mistakes in Digital Creative Projects
When developing a project in digital media, no matter what kind of end product it will be, the core process and works for the preproduction stage are exceedingly similar for various types of projects. Throughout the process, common mistakes can happen in the team with limited experience. The primary reason is that they fail to assess the resources needed for their project ideas, usually, they tend to implement astonishing ideas that are out of their league. This may be reflected in the creative team trying to enthusiastically add more novel technologies and content to the project without consideration of budget and the price line in the market.
The secondary reason, the creative team didn’t spend enough time investigating the target users could encounter many problems along the way. Not understanding the needs of the target users will result in the product being unappealing or inappropriate. For instance, the age restriction. At the same time, the creative team needs to do research on the background knowledge of the target user. Avoid using terms and concepts that cannot be fully understood without explanation. The team does not want to create a product that is too challenging to use.
With the Collaborative Approach in Mind
Nowadays, digital creative projects are usually highly collaborative. To form a team, there is a need for a project manager, creative director, lead designer, head narrator or writer, and software engineer or programmer. The disorganized role assigned in a team often results in stagnating progress. This is why we need the collaborative approach in a creative team. When working on a project, each role needs to be assigned with clear tasks. Encouraging the sharing of information among team members will be conducive to the team’s better understanding of the core idea of a project. As an advantage, the team can use their collective intelligence to solve individuals’ problems.
