I can’t believe I have been living in Vancouver for more than a month, already. Time goes by so fast. I am starting to get used to the new environment in this fantastic city and witnessing a completely different lifestyle. While now just steps into Fall season, the weather is getting colder and rainier, so I’ve decided to get a car.
However, driving in Vancouver, excluding expensive insurance rates from ICBC, means having to face parking issues. Ordinarily, there are parking meters along the street available for drivers, but one needs to set a timer as a reminder to extend the parking time or drive away. This also depends on how far you park the vehicle, which can get very inconvenient for drivers. Worst case scenario, your car will be towed by towing companies if you go over the paid time. (images show below what I’ve witnessed yesterday downtown, 3 vehicles got towed within 10 minutes of one another, parked in the restricted zones)
How does the App help?
Nowadays, because we are all using smartphones, decision makers behind the city of Vancouver launched an app for parking meters, called “Pay by Phone”. This app is extremely useful and gives drivers their well deserved peace of mind. You may now pay the fee, using your credit card to save a lot of time and prevent towing.
In the app, just simply search the area code where the car was parked, it may need more information as the car type, colour, and license plate before paying the fees. Afterwards, reminds you when the time will be expiring so you can either drive away or extend the time. Otherwise, there will be serious consequences as towing charges are very expensive.
To conclude
This app is actually a lifesaver. Without it, a lot of drivers may need to pay hefty fees to release their vehicles, it is a convenient way for drivers to spend time leisurely at the mall, restaurants, meet with friends, go shopping, etc. without any stress.
