Eventually, we have finished our Cannery project, and I really enjoyed the teamwork environment with Cassie, Fang, Nima and Xiao. Perhaps it’s time to gather some thinking generated in this process and utilize it in the future project making!
I desperately want to be a program manager and a coder in the near future and the most difficult thing that I have to focus on is building conflict resolution skills. Personally, I think it’s quite normal to experience conflicts in the process of development and I absolutely could take any accusations in private, as my past experience has proved. But we are still not sure what will happen when a conflict triggers at a greater scale.
It also occurred this time, and there might have been some misunderstanding between me and one of my teammates near the final deadline. My teammate sent me a file that didn’t follow instructions properly, in the middle of the night, when I kept waiting for that important file, and I immediately got angry at him/her. Emotion dominated my reaction and I said something that hurt him/her. From my perspective, I always want things to be fixed efficiently, and this could be represented not only in the final outcome, but also in the process where everyone could find their value in a limited time when everything shall be done eventually. So I was not sure if this file might impede on the other teammates’ rights to present. But apparently I didn’t see his/her position and that hard work and had a wrong reaction at his/her efforts. I would
definitely put aside my aggressive temper next time and offer milder suggestions.
We all want to be recognized within our close relationship circle. But the reality is that we get more or less negative feedback from our families or friend circles. Sometimes, we are just like hedgehogs, wanting to get close but do not being able to, because of our quills.
We need to make it clear that on one hand there is no absolute perfect. So trying to take those imperfections and understanding al the steps involved: completion is more important than perfection. On the other hand, there is no absolute freedom, and we have to keep the balance for everyone, and try to hide our pride and be gentler to one other
I also took a few notes that Larry Bafia gave for our project. It’s very crucial to review his feedback because it is indeed useful and sincere. I really appreciated that.
