What is a storyboard? Normally, a storyboard is a series of ordered pictures that can represent a whole video/story section. But when we tried to use a storyboard to help represent our project proposal, everything changed.
Different purposes
For video makers, Storyboards are like blueprints that are able to provide a preview of the in-progress video. The unique feature of pre-visualizing will help directors, clients, and the whole production team to save huge production costs and also significantly reduce the production cycle by cutting unnecessary shots.
However, during the process of making our Cannery project, I found out that our main purpose of making the storyboard changed to better demonstrate how our game can become a viable solution for our simulated client. In our project proposal, we used the storyboard to visualize the journey of our persona, exhibit the core interactive functions, and pre-design our game interface.
Different scripts
Under the illustration part of the storyboard, normally we needed to write down the information about the sections, for readers to have a clear understanding. In one of my animation projects, I listed out the shot numbers, shooting angels, and actions for each shot. They helped me get better control and overview of the final product.
In the cannery project, on the other hand, the content part of the storyboard became less important and was only made to support the description of the images.
Write at the end
The cannery project simulation was the biggest project this semester, For someone who has already worked in the industry for one year, I got really immersed and enjoyed the whole production process and the experience to be creative with friends. At the same time, I learned a lot of new knowledge and experienced the very early stages of the project
production process for the first time. I believe they will be useful for my future creation and career.
