In the past few months, I have written some pieces about Metaverse, NFT, programmatic advertising, Race & Ethnicity, information gaps, ArcGIS Pro, and you’ll find that my topic is mostly around humanities and technology. Specifically, they are related to my past experiences or interests, that is, advertising, interactive development, and geographic information (GIS).
Recently, I have been refocusing my career direction. Many times, like one of my father’s definitions of “diligence”, many people think that by “doing a job one means digging into a job”, which is true to some degree. But in the era of digital media, doing a job has to cover something else. On the one hand, the division of digital labor is too strict and meticulous, but the fact is that interdisciplinary cooperation is becoming more and more widely used. For example, computer program designs should also consider implementation, so commercial exploration and the so-called service design will also be implemented. In China, more and more people emphasize the concept of “empowerment” and, in fact, the intersection of disciplines. On the other hand, what people have done in life, is not exactly the same as their work. Only the blessed (extremely few) people can work for passion, so, if you have things you like but that are not “work”, then you are living a double life splitting your time between career and hobby.
Back to today’s topic, I reexamined the sustainability of our current blog content, and our pieces need some re-positioning and re-classification. This is a blog dominated by humanities and technology content, and the author will try to share everything s/he knows about advertising, front-end development. I, for example, am doing so because I wanted to be a product manager.
Speaking of a product manager, it’s a transit position for most people. Because as a product manager, you should think both from the perspective of the overall product development, and patterns of popularity on the market. You need to integrate all resources. Whether you will work with people from development, design, testing, operation, marketing, project management, or the CEO in the process of leading a project, a consensus is sometimes ambitious but also necessary. It feels like raising your own child on a long journey. You should watch him/her growing up, and finally get the recognition of the market and customers. It must be tough, but worthwhile.
I believe that as the level of product manager rises, it’s getting more important in an enterprise. His/her qualities, attributes, and potential (relative to hardcore ability) will be key factors while climbing a career ladder. Advanced product managers are usually central and are required to coordinate a lot of work between teams, and also to balance benefits within a project.
