Similarities and differences in the punishment for plagiarists between my school and Simon Fraser University

In general, for plagiarism, my school has penalties ranging from demerits, and probation to expulsion, depending on the severity of the case. Simon Fraser University’s penalties are from a reprimand to failure in a course to suspension. My school has no reprimand or suspension penalties at all. Also, my school’s maximum penalty for plagiarism is more significant than that at Simon Fraser University. Furthermore, Simon Fraser University also has penalties imposed by the president, such as advising students to receive counselling, requiring students to write letters of apology, and performing community service.

At the same time, once our graduate students are found to have committed academic fraud or academic misconduct, they will be punished with suspension of graduation and degree award, disqualification of graduation and degree application, cancellation of graduation certificate and revocation of awarded degree. For those who have already obtained a degree, regardless of whether they have left the university or not, their degrees will be revoked by the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the university, and their diplomas will be cancelled; for those who have graduated, their credentials will be recovered and reported to the educational administrative department to declare the certificates invalid.

The diploma will be cancelled, or the degree will be revoked. SFU has different ways of punishment that may not re-admit the student, forfeit university awards and financial aid or delete articles and papers from the SFU library. In the case of teachers and other staff members, my university may dismiss them or terminate their employment contracts. I didn’t find the contents of penalties for similar positions at Simon Fraser University.
