Game Reviews

Written by Antai

This is my review of 2 games I played recently, Hogwarts Legacy and Atomic Heart.

First is Hogwarts Legacy, judged by its name, a Harry Potter World game, and yes, it is. You are role-playing as a new 5th-grade student in Hogwarts; it’s like Grand Thief Auto in Magic World, with no guns but wands. Undoubtedly, the game is a fan-oriented product, it was my concern before it launched. Many fan-oriented transmedia products are not good, their goal is to make a profit because the Ip is already has a lot of fans, such as the Uncharted movie, Warcraft movie, and the infamous ET game. However, Hogwarts Legacy is a good game for any Harry Potter fans. The creators did a great job restoring or building the whole Hogwarts castle from the books and movies. Many little details and collectibles in the court, and a Harry Potter fan definitely will find it interesting. Also, you can attend magic classes, make your own potions and fight with wands. It is an amazing wizarding world; the big open world makes the game a little bit empty. They implant some side quests and merlin challenges, and they need to be better to fill the map, and quests are duplicates. This is because they had limited funds and time; through some DLCs the game will be better. Okay, the Atomic Heart, I am torn about this game. It was my most wanted game of 2023, maybe, and I know from the beginning it was made by a newly formed small studio. I really the art style and didn’t expect the gameplay will be as good as Uncharted. When I played it last month, it was just as I expected, great art-style soviet union vibe with art deco, the characters are mostly robots, and they are not the droids like in Star Wars and also not steampunk or cyberpunk, its atomic punk, not many works are like this, maybe just Fallout. And as I expected, the game is accompanied by some small bugs, such as UI sometimes being mixed up. Also, the most distinguishable thing is the level design. As a small new studio, they were creating a 3D shooter game, they had to use many same contents in the game everywhere and create repeat puzzles to fill the game. Looking forward to its DLCs.
