Why I Can’t Write a Journal Entry

Written by Han 2022 Cohort

It’s time to write my weekly JE. I wanted to write a small essay about subculture/pluralism, but I had to put it on hold due to time management issues. I reflect on why I spend so much time on topic selection. I cherish every writing opportunity; it is an opportunity to grow in knowledge and practice expression.

So, this entry is about my self-analysis. The following is a summary of the main reasons why I think I have difficulty writing:

Procrastination due to over-expectation

Whenever I write, I don’t let go of my vanity and perfectionism, and I always imagine that I will finish a logical and accurate weekly journal. Still, I think I am not up to the level, so I dwell on my fantasy and don’t want to act to break it. You do not start from your thoughts and feelings.

Fragmented reading makes knowledge unsystematic

I don’t do extra sorting of what I see, and although I have reached an intuitive connection, I don’t have a complete framework of knowledge, and I don’t have a new viewpoint to express.

Lack of personal experience, especially feelings

When it comes to things I like, I find that I am a person who is not “obsessed” with anything, which leads me to lack a deeper understanding of any field when compared to those who are passionate about things and the feelings brought by the corresponding practice.

Improvements I can make:

  • Recognizing that the focus of this assignment is on using English. Lower expectations appropriately and write pieces focusing more on the three elements of basic writing, time, place, and people. When writing argumentative essays to express ideas, follow the three-paragraph format of presenting an idea, arguing, and summarizing. Carry a notebook with you, start recording the things around you, accumulate material, and create more from your feelings. Increase the number of photos you take.
  • Read (especially in English) and take notes, read longer articles with new ideas and clear, logical structures, and record what you understand, and if you have time, connect what you know with what you have learned.

Develop a low-cost hobby (no matter time or money), easy to stick to and stick to it for at least a year. This will bring passion into your life.
