Dynamic Posters in Cyberpunk 2077

I am interested in video games with unique features, like the music in Death Stranding, the dynamic design in the Persona series, and the storytelling in Brave Heart. Compared to those games with stunning visual rendering effects and brilliant city modelling, I prefer those with personal aesthetics and preferences. Immersing this kind of game is like having a deep conversation with the development team.

Recently, since the new DLC of Cyberpunk 2077 came out, I decided to try this game, although I had played it for a couple of hours 3 years ago, and it was a terrible experience. This time, I want to know how the game has renewed during the past three years.

After about 10 hours of experience, I was surprised that the game had been extensively upgraded. Numerous bugs have been fixed, the logic of NPCs has become more reasonable, and the shooting experience has improved significantly. However, this time, I would like to focus on part players may ignore the dynamic poster in Cyberpunk 2077.

Poster, a widespread way of advertising to sell products and share ideas, has already become an inevitable part of our daily life in modern society. Research shows that people browse more than 70 posters in their daily lives on the street, in buildings, and on the Internet. This is to say that posters are an essential part of connecting to the world. Through posters, we understand what is happening and what the market wants from us.

In one update information provided by the developer last year, it said they added a lot of fresh new poster designs in the game. One significant difference between posters in our daily life and Cyberpunk is that they focus on the dynamic effect in the game. However, most of our daily posters are static. I have concluded three main visual features of their posters.

First of all, the posters in the game use a lot of purples, cyan, and other very prominent colours to accentuate the cyberpunk world better. At the same time, the fonts are decorated as much as possible to look flashy. The uniform and stunning visuals continually emphasize the themes of Night City in the player’s mind: violence, eroticism and wealth.

Secondly, the content concentrates mainly on violence and sexual innuendo.

Whether it’s in a busy business district, a government area, or a mysterious red-light neighbourhood, the themes are always about violence and sex. It’s also an effective way to increase player immersion by emphasizing and repeating content in the game repeatedly.

Third, the dynamic effect is more exaggerated. We experience many emotional effects on our phones or PCs, and they are relatively more gentle and soft, not to challenge our eyes. However, the dynamic in Cyberpunk aims to be as exaggerated as possible. Collaborate with the storytelling; they together create a fidgety and crazy Night City.

There are hundreds of video games set in modern society, but few of them notice that poster is essential in game design. Let’s think: how many great poster designs from the gaming world can we recall?
