IoT stands for “Internet of Things” and refers to the technologies that enable devices to communicate with each other over the internet so that they can either be controlled remotely or can send information about their status to a remote user. Just by thinking a bit about the paragraph above and then adding a little of imagination to it, one can realize all the possibilities, opportunities, and challenges that may arise. It can be concluded that we, the civilized human beings, are in the midst of a great revolution in the way we live on this planet.
Today, several behemoth tech companies are working together to make the IoT more and more ubiquitous, more realistic, and practical in all of our homes, cars, and general in all of our daily lives. Here I wanted to share with you some of the IoTs I found interesting in my own opinion:
1. Energy-consuming appliances:
Those appliances in your house which are consuming a high amount of energy will adjust themselves based on dynamic price signals to lower your electric bills. Smart thermostats will learn your habits and preferences to create the optimal setting consistent with your daily life.
They will turn to your favourite temperature just before you arrive and can save more energy. These gadgets will also sense when no one is in the house and will turn off automatically to reduce waste and costs.
2. Smart Grocery List:
The smart refrigerators will simultaneously be aware of you running low on staples such as eggs or milk and they will automatically update your grocery lists on the personalized application. All the new smart gadgets are connected. Even stores will send you reminders to add items to your list when they predict you are about to run out according to your historical purchasing behaviour. They can also send you push notifications when they know you are near the store and running low on a specific items, to ensure you never have to come back again to that street for a second shop.
3. Wake up time:
Today’s weather and the traffic jam on your way to work will soon affect what time your alarm goes off. If there is any road construction or there were some accidents your alarm will go off early and substitute routes will be updated on your dashboard. No need to mention, your coffee machine will also run a bit earlier to make sure you have your cup of Joe ready for the road.
