The “metaverse” is one of the most popular topics of recent years, including a series of topics such as web3.0, XR, and NFT. At the same time, Covid-19 made an appearance. New lifestyles have further promoted the development of the metaverse. So, what did the metaverse bring to our lives?
Expansion of sensory experience
In the metaverse, through media creation, we can expand from the previous essential traditional experiences (sight, hearing) to richer sensory experiences such as sight, hearing, touch, etc. We can also involve multiple senses to interact with game characters through gesture interaction and motion recognition technology to make the virtual experience more authentic. In addition, in the real world, we usually observe the world from the first-person view(FPV). But in the metaverse, the out-of-body interaction of virtual humans provides us with a third-person perspective that allows us to experience different perspectives on the world.
Changing the traditional business
The Metaverse also promotes the changing of traditional business.
Many companies have created virtual people based on machine learning and AI. These virtual humans can better meet users’ needs and conduct business promotion for target users – the fashion blogger “Miquela” ; In addition, now we don’t need a retail store to try on clothes; we can do this at home through our camera. For example, Gucci launched an Gucci Virtual AR shoe trial app, which means you can try the newly released shoe types in Gucci app at any time. That form reduces the travel cost of users and becomes a new trend for future business development.
Potential problems
Although with the metaverse development, the market rules and restriction strategies will be gradually refined, there are still some potential problems to be prevented.
On the one side, the cost of having fun in the metaverse is relatively low compared to the real world. In that situation, we prefer to spend a lot of time online immersed rather than communicating with friends or family, which may reduce our desire to explore the real world, and we would become isolated and anti-social, even further affecting our faculty of communication.
On a different note, the currently popular ways, like blockchain, digital collection, and NFT technologies, are still in embryo. But this new model of wealth creation in virtual space may lead to further problems of class inequality. Let’s wait and see how we will be affected.
