What Pre-MDM means to me

By Claire

I can’t believe this semester has ended; my tears start dripping while writing my last journal entry. Looking back, many memories suddenly come to my mind. I can still remember that on our first day of class, everyone stayed silent and shy, but we became good friends and got close to each other.

Pre-MDM has been an incredible journey; over the course of six months, we had several field trips to visit the university and historical museum located in Vancouver, which allowed us to learn about Canadian culture and history. Every week we had a conversation club, and our teacher Aida invited staff from CDM or previous cohort students to share their experience in MDM or working life. It has provided me with different perspectives on life. Additionally, we had several team projects and real clients who gave us feedback; I worked with talented members and learned from them, they always encouraged me, and I am grateful that I am no longer afraid of speaking up and voicing my opinions.

For me, the Cannery project was the most exciting. I am currently working on this project, which allowed me to lead a team. I set weekly milestones for the team, and my talented team members always accomplish work beyond my expectations. We rapidly overcame a few obstacles at the beginning of the project. During the project, we attended classes, and teachers taught us different techniques to improve team efficiency, such as agile methodologies, etc. We learned these methods and applied the technical vocabulary to our project and team life. Overall, Pre-MDM meant a lot to me. It allowed me to meet incredible teachers and classmates, and we became a big family. They support me in continuing my journey; I look forward to entering the MDM program in September 2023.
