These days, I tried a couple of the latest AI engines and am frightened by what artificial intelligence can do. AI tools cross many fields we used to believe were irreplaceable, such as art, video editing, coding, writing and design. It was mind-blowing when I used Midjourney in class for the first time. I was shocked by how delicate and fine art can generate and could not stop worrying about the future of humanity. (Even though I knew it might be the darkest imagined version) To test the maturity of this tool, I decided to start with something I was familiar with, so I typed “Rococo-style architecture with futuristic vibe and dark background.” Then I got this image.
It was awe-inspiring since this kind of rendering may take an architect a few weeks to finish; however, AI generates it in no time. Then I tried another prompt: “A UI design system for a school admission website,” and I got this:
It is not a mature website user interface, but it does have good visual taste and astonishingly follows some UI design guidelines.
A few days after, I explored another AI chatbot- ChatGPT, released by OpenAI. This tool is impressively excellent, and chatting with it is surprisingly addictive as it always says something that blows you away. Speaking
with this artificial bot feels like talking with a real and wise human being. It can hold natural and human-like conversations that would be a game-changer in the writing, speech and content creation industries. Sometimes it is even like a search engine since you can ask any question, and it will reply to you with a sophisticated answer. Here is what I got:
It is a well-structured, well-supported and comprehensive answer based on evidence and logical reasoning. It is even hard to imagine a person studying computer science could write a better solution than this.
This brings up my concerns about this situation. What are the potential sequences of AI? If there were even more advanced versions of AI in the future, they might be able to spread misinformation and manipulate people on a massive scale. Also, the ability to create and express new ideas might be abandoned, humanity might be destroyed, and AI would take over the world like many sci-fi stories. The future is hard to expect, but we continually create more advanced AI. Apparently, the decision is not in our hands; it is not up to most of us.
