My Pre-MDM Journey

Written by Yono

Time flies like an arrow; it’s hard to believe I’ve already been at CDM for over one month. Before coming here, I had many imaginations about this journey, but the truth always has plans.

My undergraduate major was in Digital Media Technology, which was my destiny. During that time, I gained much computer science knowledge, including Database Management, Data Structures, Web Design, and Game Development. These courses and projects laid a solid foundation for my coding skills. Additionally, we often shot short films, sparking my interest in directing.

However, the pandemic had significantly impacted my university life. Without the pandemic, I would have a stronger foundation in coding, more project experience, and more enjoyable university life. But life doesn’t have ‘maybes.’ I felt so helpless and depressed at that time, which led me to find solace in playing billiards, a journey that taught me much.

I feel incredibly fortunate and content at CDM. My teachers and classmates are amiable, allowing me to express myself freely. I no longer worry that my spoken English will be mocked; instead, I find this environment conducive to slow but steady progress. With the right amount of pressure and challenges, this is a tailor-made Gap Year for me.

In Jason’s class, I’ve gained valuable insights into digital media. Although collaborating on projects can sometimes be challenging, these obstacles are surmountable, and I genuinely enjoy the process.

I attend Aida’s class most frequently, and time always seems to fly by. The course offers endless English knowledge and countless ideas to explore. Far from finding this overwhelming, I relish the learning atmosphere. The ability to express myself humorously and interact with classmates boosts my confidence. Even though my English could be better, this is precisely what I aim to improve.

All in all, I cherish every moment at CDM. The stunning scenery of Vancouver and the friendliness of its people reassure me that choosing to come here was the right decision.
