After studying in the Pre-MDM for a month, I have come to realize that this is the best decision I have ever made. Initially, I hesitated to join this program, fearing that I would waste a year of my life solely studying English in Canada. However, I soon discovered that the pre-MDM curriculum encompasses much more than just language courses; it is designed to help us adapt to our new environment and facilitate our integration into Canadian culture. Moreover, the program offers invaluable insights into collaborating with colleagues from diverse workplace cultures.
I am truly amazed by the wealth of knowledge I have gained in class, including essential writing skills for crafting emails, pitches and presentations, strategies for avoiding discriminatory language in communication, and the importance of treating people from diverse backgrounds with kindness and respect. These are skills that I could not have acquired in my working environment in China, despite my more than six years of experience. I recognize that I am navigating a brand new territory, and it would have been costly to learn these lessons gradually in the future. That is why I am profoundly grateful to have gained this understanding before entering the job market, as it has helped me avoid potential pitfalls.
This period of my life aligns perfectly with my belief that no time is wasted when we are diligently pursuing my goals. In an age marked by rapid development and constant updates, many people, myself included, often find themselves rushing to achieve their objectives as quickly as possible. However, I have come to realize that there are still many important aspects of life that require us to invest time and dedicate genuine effort. After all, the world is built by real people, and it thrives on authentic and sincere communication. It is through these meaningful interactions and the dedication we show in our endeavours that we truly make a difference. Embracing this mindset not only enriches our personal growth but also fosters deeper connections with those around us.
Another aspect that resonated deeply with me was the contrasting educational approaches demonstrated by Aida and Jason during our classes. They foster genuine understanding and the acquisition of knowledge through essential rounds of practice, rather than merely compelling us to memorize information. This rich and engaging class content cultivates a profound sense of participation and involvement.
Within this environment, I have the flexibility to switch roles within the team, draw upon my expertise, or even explore unfamiliar territories without the fear of failure or rejection. Stepping out of my comfort zone can be a daunting challenge, yet the faculty and my fellow students consistently encourage and embrace such behaviour. This supportive atmosphere has empowered me to take risks, learn from my experiences, and grow in confidence. Ultimately, it is this vibrant culture of collaboration and encouragement that makes our learning experience not only effective but also profoundly enriching. I eagerly anticipate embarking on the next enriching chapter of my learning journey.
