The 5G era, a bright future for digital media

I really want to delve deeper into why I want to study Digital Media. It is because, from my perspective, “the digital” has great potential to rule the media world in the future, after 5G will be fully rolled out.

I went from 2G to 4G and I witnessed how information dissemination changed and how people’s communication habits have altered. Every time the internet’s fundamentals update, there will be a reformation of media communication following at a later time.  In the 2G era, only computers could be connected to the Internet. At that time I read news on websites, communicated with others on specific forums. What the internet brought me was access to information. In 3G era, it’s more like we entered mobile internet era. The most significant thing is our cellphone started to have other meanings. We used our cellphones to surf the web, to take photos with low resolution,to contact our friends by instant messaging, and Nokia dominated the world. One day, Apple came  on the market, at that time, almost everyone had thought that the trend of cellphone would disappear, iPhone provided us with a diversified choice that we ignored because we didn’t see the value of it.

But we had figured it out sooner than later when the 4G era started, Internet finally has sufficient bandwidth and transmission speed, we enjoyed better internet service. Things have changed a lot since then, video platforms and social media apps have sprung up more and more from traditional mainstream media. At the same time, people had more ways to communicate, to express themselves, to acquire entertainment. Whether it is related to social or gaming, entertainment or news, information transmission is more interactive, entertaining, interesting, and visual.

We seem to prefer seeing more pictures than words, more videos than pictures. We abandoned mainstream media and plunged into the arms of KOLs.  After the 4G network has developed,  the live-broadcast has entered our sight. So, with the continuous development of network infrastructure, the media is changing, the way people receive information is changing, the way people communicate, and the way people entertain is changing.

Speaking of 5G, it will be almost 11 times faster than the current 4G network, reaching 1Gps. Simultaneously, due to the low-wavelength and high-frequency characteristics of 5G signals, the entire mobile network will be more stable. Performance and response speed will also be greatly improved due to the increase in base station density. All these technologies, for example AR ,VR ,restricted by the current 4G network will get the opportunity to advance considerably in the future. No one will deny they want to experience richer, interactive and three-dimensional entertainment. Now, more and more companies have begun to show strong interest in more advanced and innovative visual content and interactive ways, both online and offline that could bring about new sensory experiences.

To conclude, in the 5G era, the demand for more interactive, immersive, and more sensory and innovative new content will definitely change our world. I hope to be at the forefront of the trend, learn the most advanced technologies and concepts here, and be ready for the future.
