In the era of self-media, individuals have the chance to show themselves to the public, become famous on the internet, especially when Youtube allows you to display your super powers. However, it does not mean that everybody can be a famous You-tuber without effort or good luck, or both.
The reason I was thinking about this topic is because we have an assignment where we need to work in pairs and make a Youtube-like video. If someone wants to be a famous Youtuber, what kind of skills do they need?
Maybe they need to identify what kind of specialty they or their team have first. Are they a professional of their field, do they have a keen sense of the trend, or are they just good at making jokes? I can only take a guess, because at this time our requirement is that describing one gadget both of us have, we do not need to worry about the content (of course we do not need to become famous either). But I still believe the interesting content of the video is the first and the most important step to becoming popular.
Another thing maybe they need is to express their emotion, or maybe they need acting skills to make the video more engaging. This opinion is generated from my personal experience through this assignment. I thought I made a good script for the video assignment, but when I went to act, it took a lot of time because I felt awkward when I saw the recording. I was trying to emphasize the emotion through the language, facial expressions and gestures when filming, but it did not feel natural. I guess I need to learn acting if I want to become a you-tuber.
Last but not the least is that they need to be good at making videos. I am so lucky that my partner for this assignment is a professional at making videos. She made a writing storyboard to show me how to act based on my script, and she will edit the video at the end. I am totally new to making videos so I really appreciate her effort.
There are definitely other conditions that lead to becoming a popular you-tuber, I am not going to highlight more because I gave up being a you-tuber for the time being. I realized that I have no experience yet, but I do believe I have the chance to become famous in my own professional area.
