This is the very first field trip in the Pre-MDM program under the tough pandemic situation. On this field trip, we headed to the Cannery Museum located in Stevenson, Richmond. Inside, we learned a lot about local history and how the cannery works with different nationalities workers from the past. What really caught my attention was the machinery, getting to know how to patch salmon into cans at the speed of light. Overall it was my first most memorable field trip first time in Vancouver.
About the Project
In the past four weeks, I believe a new challenge for me was leading my team call “Roots” to work on the project, since I don’t have much practical experience yet on how to lead a team. We carefully established the pain points sand brainstormed digital solutions that can improve the experience of the visitors in the cannery. It took us quite a long period of time to come up with the final idea of the AR simulation game.
The Progress
After we came up with the idea, each of us divided the work individually for the proposal document, pitch deck, presentation deck, executive summary, and last but not least the low-fi prototype. We mostly shared ideas on how to improve the project ideation stage, we usually scheduled meetings once or twice a week to discuss all the individual working progress. What I’ve really learned? We are all very supportive of one another, during the discussions and tackled challenges and “stuck-points” together, as a team.
The Final Stage
When the deadline got closer and closer, we put extra effort and time into the project, got a lot of feedback from Simran, Iris, and Aida. To be honest, without them, the final work would not have been a success, a complete result. Our presentation to Larry returned a lot of valuable comments and ideas. It was a project simulation, but it felt like the real thing!
Conclusion
In this semester, what I’ve really learned from the class is useful to input into the project, it is also a great practical experience with fundamental skills to learn and a great lesson for future development. I will look forward to more related work in different projects to strengthen my skills in this lucrative program.
