The knowledge I used in the cannery project

Written by Taoan, 2021 Cohort

The Cannery proposal, which is the final team assignment of the first semester in Pre-MDM was completed yesterday. In this proposal, I worked on the following parts: Project aim, The Net Result, Game Summary, Game Development & Milestones and Budget, I was also associated with the storyboard. I have a background in 3D animation and game design, so I want to share how I blended the experience I have with this project.

Most of the document part of the proposal comes from my game design background. In one of the student team projects I had before, It required us to make documents like GDD (Game Design Document), TDD (Technical Design Document) and Art Bible etc. I have only focused on the Art Bible, and the rest of the documentation was done by my awesome teammates at that time, I learned a lot about the paperwork involved in the process of creating a game. Besides, I learned a lot about the milestones and scope from my previous project.

As I mentioned I also contributed to the storyboard part, From scene 07 to scene 10. Because my 3D skills are better than my 2D skills, I modelled the components our storyboard required of the cannery pipeline, then rendered the contours of the model, then did the final editing in a graphics editor software.

The progress of the storyboard

Of course, I am very appreciative of my teammates on the project, both of them are kind and easy to work with, all of them have amazing knowledge and skills in their area. I do not have any knowledge of business, marketing and video editing, and they did a great job, I believe I learned a lot from them.

Also, the reference and the feedback from Aida, Simran and Iris are very helpful. I learned a lot about how to write a proposal, and how to make it easy to read. I think my writing skills are better than before.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this cannery project simulation. I haven’t had the experience of making a simulated client-based project, as well as considering the business part. I believe it will help me in the future, just like how my previous experience has helped me in this project.
