It simply looks like a barcode from a product but has the ability to be used in many different ways. The way to use the code requires a smartphone camera to complete the scanning, then it usually shows up a URL website, apps, or more. This is how QR code works in real life.

The difference before and after using QR codes in the restaurant

Traditionally before the existence of QR codes, when we normally entered a restaurant, the waiters would greet and guide the client to their seat with different sizes or style menus. When passing down the menu, sometimes they would introduce promotions to complete a full procedure for each client. Once each client was prepared to order, they needed to write it down to pass the information to the kitchen. This was really time-consuming and the workload was difficult to manage.

After QR, waiters just greet the clients and lead them to the seat, introducing some deals of the day, while telling them they can scan the QR code menu to place an order. The restaurant’s digital system takes over and becomes an extra helper to organize orders. From the client’s perspective, it is much easier to order a meal from their own smartphone, after scanning the QR code.

What is the benefit of using the QR code menu?

The major change between waiters and clients after using it, it really saves a lot of time for both sides. Restaurants may now update menus through digital versions, so they could save up a lot of money without printing new menus. The staff can get peace of mind, a reduced workload and better flow in restaurants.

I think this QR code menus represent a major change nowadays, they speed up the process for most of the restaurants, especially during the pandemic, it will be great not having to touch any physical menu and keeping social distance, if necessary.

Written by Oscar, 2021 Cohort What is a QR code and how do we use it?
